The Weekend

My sister and brother-in-law came in for the weekend. We took them to Chalet Alpina Saturday evening, and on Sunday we drove out to Suffolk County, and rode around some old neighborhoods where we grew up, and had lunch at Bedlam Street in Cold Spring Harbor.

HI.

I have not felt like writing any entries because I am focused on another class that is taking alot of my time, effort and anxiety. It’s an important class because the original idea was mine. The class is about researching stock through using the library’s databases and web sites, and I have about 30 days left to master and prepare and practice the material.

Otherwise, we have gone to eat at the Chalet Alpina whicch is one of the last of the great neighborhood restaurants in our area. It’s good food without any later repercussions.

We are still painting the house. Every once in awhile we take a break. We are going to have the floors done soon. I planted daffidils, tulips and crocus bulbs this Fall.

And I am reading a history of Long Island, The New York Times every day

Dead Iraqis

According to a study, there have been 600,000 Iraqi civilians killed since our 2003 invasion. And these are people we are trying to set free. I thought our 2,600 dead soldiers were a high statistic. We need to leave. I doubt that it is ever going to get better, and all of Bush’s rhetoric leaves me with a sick feeling inside. Our presence is not helping the country or the people.

I know we will be leaving a mess behind us, probably a full-fledged civil war, but thee numbers speak for themselves. We have already caused the deaths of half a million people. We really need to leave Iraq.
