The Heidi Bowl
I don’t know if anyone here is old enough to remember the Super Bowl game when NBC decided to cut it short, so Heidi could start on time. Fans were angry and the screams could be heard across the country.
I was reminded of Heidi last night. I was just about to see the season’s climax of my favorite show Deadwood, and it froze. I flipped through the other channels then came back to see the end of the show. Fortunately, I can see it again at my leisure, but it did not feel fair at the time.!
Wow!

Christine Quinn – City Council – Budget
I have lost respect for Christine Quinn. I disagreed, but admired her refusing to take part in the Manhattan St. Patrick’s Day parade. Now, she is drastically reducing the budgets of Social Service organizations. Some are getting nothing while others are facing 30 to 50%reductions.
The type of services include: family services, poverty, hunger, at-risk youth and welfare-to-work services. Many areas outside of Manhattan are affected. Cultural institutions especially in Manhattan received about a 1/3 increase in the city budget.
I have seen this stance before with Hurricane Katrina. The immediate response from some people was to restore the libraries and museums, instead of helping the poor people who needed water and food.
I would have thought that by supporting gays and lesbians; she would have been interested in serving all people regardless of their social/economic standing. There will be gays who will be affected by her budget deductions too.
They say that power corrupts, and Christine Quinn has certainly changed. Doesn’t she realize that there has to be services for the poor, or there could be more crime, from people who have become desperate losing support from the government.
Also, I don’t undersand why museums that charge $15-20 a person need more money from the local government.

Sunday
We went to the cemetary, and visited my parents. This was the first time the feelings were not overwhelming. Usually, I would be sad for days.
I can think back about my parents, and I have their memories as well. My father used to tell stories about what he was like when he was young; my mother told me many of her memories, and I have access to dozens of photographs, some when they were young, when they dated and their friends. I appreciated knowing them, and appreciate what they left me.

I am reminded to push ahead with my projects such as the dry run I will have for my class next week.
Three Strikes You’re Out!
I gave up on Blogger today. I don’t think the free model is generating enough paying customers for them. They interfered with my blogging three times:
One blog was considered spam.
Gave access to my original entries.
Now, I can’t publish because my account is full.
I am not angry. I had free access, but Blogger is becoming unusable.
